As a kid I was big fan of the Car Wars game and love the Death Race movies. I went on BoardGameGeek.com and read some things about it there. So after looking at for a while now and then finding a good deal on here I could not pass it up. The people I played with had a good time. They were willing to play it again so that is a plus, because one of them doesn’t play a lot of games like this. The rules were for the most part easy to follow. There are to sets the quick-start and the more advance. We did find a few times that we looked in the advance stuff because it gave more info. The track tiles are double sided so you can build all kinds of tracks which give the game lots of replay. We played a one-lap race were it came down to driving and not so much weapons but after learning things we saw how with a 2 or 3 lap race it will much more involve both.Only down side we found is that the cars are small, they look the same, and if you play with the teams they are the same color so you have to come up with a way to mark one from the other. All in all this game was worth getting and I am looking forward to playing it again. My gaming group has never really been into the standard tabletop version of racing games out there so when I saw this I thought the added component of actively trying to kill each other would get them more interested. It worked but out a group of six, two (including me) really enjoy the game, three are okay with it and one find it boring as all get out. There are two versions of the rules, one basic and one advanced. Compared to a lot of games the basic rules are pretty straight forward but you'll probably be referring to the rules regularly your first few games but once everyone involved understands the basics and the strategy you'll be in for a good time. This is a really fun racing board game. It has alot of re-playability with the track design. Gameplay is furious and fun with you managing your speed and damage while weighing options. Combat is damaging but it isn't the focal point of the game. My only complaint is the car miniatures are small. I ended up gluing them together and adding a small stand per car. This elimated the fiddly aspect and the only drawback to the game. If you enjoy games like F-Zero, Wipeout, or if you just enjoy racing boardgames this game is for you.My family has really enjoyed this. Its a solid racing game more in the vein of a Mario Kart rather than Formula 1. Game play is more focused on resource and risk management. The weapons are fun, but aren't that powerful, keeping the car management as the primary focus. The game is not that complicated so I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was complaining about.Game is well constructed with thick tiles, but the cars could be larger and more detailed.A similar game with similar structure but no combat is Love the racing games and this one's right at the top. Fun little race cars and a track that has many options for design. no need for several boards for different tracks just put the different pieces together any way you want and you have a custom track.Be aware this game has 13 pages of instructions. My 12 year old boys got bored after trying to sort through the first 6 pages of instructions which appear to have been written so only those with doctorates could understand. We boxed this one up and sent it to Goodwill without ever even playing it.
