Tropical heat, the turquoise-to-powder-blue Caribbean Sea and adventure cycling beckons you to Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands! The BVI are historically known for pirates, rum, the trade winds and such and in more modern times sailboat charters and luxurious vacationing- but what an amazing place to work out! We hope you're ready for these extremely steep hills! These climbs will challenge your pedaling power on the north side while there are plenty of flat endurance runs along the seaside south coast with and east by the airport on Beef Island. Beautifully ever-changing views of St. John, Jost Van Dyke, Camanoe, Guana and other neighboring islands are just part of the background scenery here. You'll pass traditional pastel-colored Caribbean-style houses, country stores and restaurants surrounded by banana, mango, papaya, palms, and other tropical trees in places such as Apple Bay, Cane Garden Bay and Josiah's Bay. The roads are a bit dodgy with potholes, speed bumps, waves splashing over seawalls and swerving for 'creative' drivers- all part of the local flavor! 73 minutes island time!
